Robert B. Coutts

Robert B. Coutts retired from Lockheed Martin Corporation as the Executive Vice President of the Electronic Systems Business Area on April 1, 2008. He was promoted to this position in October 1999 and was responsible for the Corporation's $12 billion Electronic Systems business area. He previously was President and Chief Operating Officer of the $7 billion Systems Integration business area, having been appointed to that position in September 1998. Earlier, Coutts was President of Lockheed Martin Government Electronic Systems in Moorestown, New Jersey. He was elected an officer of the Corporation by the Lockheed Martin Board of Directors in December 1996. Coutts was also a member of the board of directors of Lockheed Martin Finance Corporation, Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems, Inc., Lockheed Martin UK and Lockheed Martin Espana.

Coutts was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sandia Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporate which manages Sandia National Laboratories for the Department of Energy) in 2007. He retained this position until his retirement in April 2008.

Coutts joined Aero & Naval Systems of Lockheed Martin as President in August 1994. Previously, he served as Vice President, Material Acquisition and Subcontract Management for Martin Marietta, where he supported 15 locations across the major aerospace groups of the Corporation.

Prior to joining Martin Marietta during the GE Aerospace merger in 1993, Coutts served as General Manager of the GE Aerospace Operations Syracuse-Utica Division, where he was responsible for the production of radar and sonar systems representing more than $400 million in annual sales.

He began his career at the General Electric Corporation in 1972. After graduating from the GE Manufacturing Management Program (MMP) he held two positions in Lynn, Massachusetts before moving to the Carboloy Division of General Electric, first in Michigan and then as a Plant Manager in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Coutts returned to the Aircraft Engine Group in 1983 and held managerial positions in Albuquerque, New Mexico before becoming the Plant Manager at Aircraft Engine's turbine component facility in Madisonville, Kentucky.

In 1989, he joined the Aircraft Engine Production Division Staff in Evendale, Ohio as Manager of Inventory and Asset Management, where he remained until becoming General Manager of the GE Aerospace Operations Syracuse-Utica Division.

A native of Westbury, New York, Coutts holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (cum laude) from Tufts University.

Coutts has maintained a strong personal commitment to the community and civic organizations in the areas where he has lived and worked. He is a member of the board of directors of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and he also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Maryvale Preparatory School, the Board of Overseers, College of Engineering, Tufts University, the Board of Governors of Wesley Theological Seminary and as a member of the Chapter of the National Cathedral.

He also serves on the boards of Pall Corporation [NYSE: PLL] and its Compensation Committee, The Stanley Black and Decker Corporation [NYSE: SWK] as Chair of its Governance and Nominating Committee, and as a member of its Finance and Pension Committee and on the board of Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. [NYSE: HOV] and on its Compensation Committee.
