U.S. Air Force standardizes its product lifecycle management platform on Teamcenter

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

Helping the U.S. Air Force acquire, modernize, and build better aircraft and defense systems

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, is the headquarters of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center—the single center responsible for total life cycle management covering critical Air Force assets. To accelerate acquisition, enhance manufacturing efficiency, and improve readiness, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center awarded a $24.6 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to Siemens Government Technologies for software and support enabling the Air Force to use a common digital enterprise to integrate data relied on for the acquisition and sustainment of critical assets trusted to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace.

Helping Support the Air Force’s Digital Journey

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is headquarters for a vast, worldwide logistics system, a world-class laboratory research function, and is the foremost acquisition and development center in the U.S. Air Force. Multiple departments at the base ensure the U.S. Air Force has the equipment and logistic services it needs to execute its missions. This involves the engineering, manufacturing, testing and servicing of a massive number of complex products, systems, and processes, including aircraft, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, and intelligence and communication networks.

To ensure fleet superiority and mission-readiness, the U.S. Air Force needed an enterprise-level product lifecycle management (PLM) platform that achieved greater innovation, faster product development speed, and adhered to strict regulatory and government-mandated compliance.

A single, integrated PLM platform

Teamcenter provides the Air Force visibility into all aspects of product lifecycle and enables a new level of workforce collaboration and knowledge management—both critical assets in today’s information-driven environments.

Teamcenter allows Air Force PLM professionals to manage all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from concept through service and retirement. By optimizing product development processes and using a single, secure source of information, the Air Force can accelerate development and delivery of innovative capabilities and share product performance details at any time, from any location.

Advancing the U.S Air Force mission

With Teamcenter, the Air Force PLM team can acquire and maintain the very best equipment and systems, and support them with lifecycle maintenance strategies to advance the U.S. Air Force mission in air, space, and cyberspace. The enterprise-level platform integrates a broad range of complex technical, design and sustainment data, resulting in lower costs through more predictable schedule and cost performance of its assets. Teamcenter also enhances workforce productivity, accelerates product design and manufacturing, increases product quality, and enables data-driven decision making for greater innovation.
